6.6 magnitude earthquake strikes north-west of Indonesia

A massive 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck 173 km north-northwest off the Indonesian island of Ternate on Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake occurred at a depth of 60.5 km.

The tremor comes weeks after the deadly tsunami on 23 December that killed more than 430 people following the eruption of the Anak Krakatoa volcano in the Sunda Strait.

No tsunami warning has been issued yet.
