Alaska struck by 7.0 quake, tsunami warning issued

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck southern Alaska on Friday, the United States Geological Survey said. The epicenter of the quake was registered 13 kilometers north of the state's largest city, Anchorage, at a depth of 40.9 kilometers.

In response to the earthquake, US officials issued a tsunami warning for coastal areas in southern Alaska. United States Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke stated that the quake caused "severe damage to roads, bridges and water pipes" and warned that aftershocks could follow.
