Asian markets trade lower after China trade data

Asian markets traded with losses on Monday as China released its trade figures. According to official data, the country's trade surplus with the United States grew 17% in 2018 compared to the previous year, rising to its highest point since 2006 and reaching $323.3 billion. Meanwhile, its overall trade surplus fell to its lowest point since 2013 and amounted to $351.7 billion. Exports increased 9.9% in 2018 while imports grew 15.8%.

Japanese Nikkei 225 was closed for a public holiday.

China's Shanghai Composite fell 0.56% at 4:30 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite dropped 0.77% at the same time. Hong Kong's Hang Seng decreased 1.57% at 4:033 am CET.

South Korean Kospi Composite was 0.69% lower at 4:13 am CET. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.48% at 4:34 am CET. Meanwhile, the dollar lost 0.09% against the yen, to go for 108.39 at 8:04 am CET.
