China's Li: Economic targets were achieved in 2018

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang stated on Monday that the country's major economic targets were achieved in 2018, indicating that Beijing would not implement any "flood-like" economic stimulus, Chinese state media reported. The official noted that the Chinese economy is currently within a satisfactory range and he expressed optimism in a future rise of downward pressures on the world's second economy.

The premier's remarks come as China's exports recorded sharp decreases, pointing to general contractions in the country's economy. Meanwhile, Beijing's Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) said earlier that the country is increasing its foreign investment quota by 100%.

United States President Donald Trump stated earlier this month that the trade negotiations with China are going "very well," and that a lot of progress is being made. The latest round of trade talks started in Beijing on January 7.
