Europe opens lower ahead of ECB decision

Markets in Europe opened in the red as investors awaited European Central Bank's (ECB) interest rate decision due to be announced later in the day. A day earlier, the United States Federal Reserve announced it is raising interest rates by 0.25 points and added it expects another to rate hikes before the end of the year.

The FTSE 100 fell 0.57% at 9:01 am CET. Persimmon led the losses as it plunged 4.28% at 9:00 am CET.

The DAX lost 0.62% at 9:02 am CET. The worst performer was Linde whose shares slid 1.51% at 9:03 am CET.

The CAC 40 declined 0.54% at 9:01 am CET with LVMH and Michelin both dropping 1% at 9:02 am CET.

The euro added 0.22% against the dollar to go for 1.1817 at 9:01 am CET.
