Giuliani: Mueller told me he can't indict Trump

Member of United States President Donald Trump's legal team and former Republican politician Rudy Giuliani told CNN that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has concluded that the president can't be indicted, only impeached. "They can't indict. At least they acknowledged that to us after some battling, they acknowledged that to us," Giuliani said in an interview.

He added that the only thing Mueller's team can do is write a report that would give recommendations to the House of Representatives. The reason why the Special Counsel believes Trump can't be indicted, Giuliani claimed, are guidelines issued by the Department of Justice during the administration of Richard Nixon, which protect the sitting president from legal charges.

Earlier, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said that the "Department of Justice has in the past, when the issue arose, has opined that a sitting President cannot be indicted." Mueller’s team declined to comment on the matter when asked by CNN.
