Hamas hails Lieberman's resignation as 'victory for Gaza'

The Palestinian political and military organization Hamas described on Wednesday the resignation of Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman as a "political victory" for Gaza, which was at the center of the latest escalation of violence between Israelis and Palestinians. According to a Hamas spokesman, Lieberman's departure marks a "recognition of defeat and failure to confront the Palestinian resistance," while Gaza's "steadfastness sent a political shockwave" throughout the Jewish State.

Lieberman's resignation is reportedly related to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to strike a ceasefire with Hamas following two days of intense exchange of fire. Lieberman accused the prime minister of "surrendering to Hamas terror" and said that if he didn't resign, he "wouldn't be able to look the residents of the south [Israel] in the eye."
