Hulu reports 25M subscribers in 2018

Hulu streaming service said that it had more than 25 million subscribers at the end of 2018, eight million more than the year before. The company added its ad revenue amounted to almost $1.5 billion and the media age of subscribers stood at 32 years.

Despite the 48% year-on-year rise of both subscription service and live TV customers, the number of subscribers is still below its rivals Netflix, which had 137.1 million customers, and Amazon Prime with more than 100 million global subscriptions. The rise in the number of Hulu's subscribers is likely the result of the strategy to offer more original content such as the Handmaid's Tale.

"Consumers have spoken loudly about their desire for more choice and control in their TV experience. They are seeing the enormous benefits of streaming, they’re deciding which content and brands are most important to them and they’re choosing Hulu," Hulu CEO Randy Freer said in a statement.
