Intelligence on Russian meddling backed in Senate

The United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence decided to support the findings by intelligence agencies that the Russian government tried to bolster the chances of current President Donald Trump in the election campaign against Hillary Clinton. The panel's chief Richard Burr said on Wednesday that there is "no reason to dispute the conclusions" from the report from January of last year, since when the analysis was conducted.

The committee, led by a Republican, decided to back the allegations against the Kremlin even after the document was rejected by the equivalent body of the lower chamber of Congress. The move is part of the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. The House committee had concluded the government in Moscow wanted to undermine a free and fair system and incite "chaos and discord."
