Macedonia parliament approves name change

Macedonia's parliament voted on Friday to rename the country Republic of North Macedonia as per its agreement with Greece, ending a 27-year dispute over its name.

The amendment to the country's constitution was approved with 81 deputies voting in favor, while the opposition Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization-Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity boycotted the vote.

In October, the former Yugoslav republic organized a referendum on the name change with over 90% of voters supporting the motion to rename the country North Macedonia.
