Medvedev: More US sanctions would mean 'economic war'

In case the United States decides to impose additional sanctions on Russia that would include a ban on banking transactions and activities, Moscow would take that as a declaration of economic war, said Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

"If they ban banking operations or the use of any currency we will call it a declaration of economic war. And we’ll have to respond to it – economically, politically or in any other way, if need be. Our American friends should make no mistake about it," Medvedev stated while visiting Russia's Far East. After Washington announced the measures, Russian currency fell to a 21-month low against the American dollar.

Earlier, Russian Embassy in the United States slammed the announced additional US sanctions on Russia as "draconian" and not based in facts. The new set of punitive measures by Washington cites alleged Russian involvement in the poisoning of Skripals in the UK back in March.
