Mogherini: Saving INF is key to European security

European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said on Thursday that the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) is a major factor contributing to the security of Europe and global security. At a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the EU's top diplomat pointed out that its is key the treaty is preserved.

The two diplomats met on the sidelines of the Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), after United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated earlier this week that Washington decided to pull out from the INF if Russia does not comply with the treaty within the next 60 days. Moscow responded saying that it follows the agreement's principles and that Washington is aware of it.
