Nasdaq 100, Amazon, FB touch record highs on open

Equities in New York traded with slight gains after the opening bell on Friday while United States President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May were holding a press conference at her Chequers residence in a cordial tone. The technology heavyweights took the lead in early trade, with Amazon.com Inc. and Facebook Inc. posting new all-time intraday records for the second day in a row. Major banks kicked off the earnings season, showing mixed results.

The Dow Jones was 0.14% in the green. Walgreens let the way with a leap of 1.42%. The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.13% to 7,375.5 after also hitting a historic peak of 7,379.287 points. Lam Research was the strongest component, rallying 1.6%. The S&P 500 added only 0.04%, with Starbucks at the top of the board, rising 1.7%. Amazon opened 0.49% higher at $1,805.369 and Facebook jumped 0.73% to $208.43 per share.

Gold was 0.47% down for the day at 3:36 pm CET and silver fell 0.78%. The euro was 0.26% lower at $1.16409. The pound slipped 0.28% to $1.3169 and the joint currency was little changed at £0.88386. The dollar was flat at ¥112.53.
