NATO's Stoltenberg praises Trump's 'strong commitment'

Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg, thanked on Thursday United States President Donald Trump for his "strong commitment to the alliance," as well as for his "leadership on defense spending," which "has really helped to make a difference" to the organization's budget. He said all allies are increasing their defense spending, with no member states cutting down their contributions, and "more and more" are paying the recommended 2% of their GDP. However, he added that, in an "unpredictable" world, countries will need to invest even more in their security.

Stoltenberg also expressed his support for Trump's efforts to "try to find a peaceful and negotiated solution to the crisis on the Korean peninsula." He stressed the importance of maintained pressure on North Korea and called on Pyongyang to "seize this historic opportunity" to resolve the issues in the region. The NATO chief cautioned that, while the main aim of the talks with the rogue regime is denuclearization, North Korea should also abandon its missile program.
