Democrats take control of House of Representatives

Democrats flipped enough House seats in order to gain control of the lower chamber of Congress for the first time in eight years, according to NBC News projections. The Democratic Party secured major victories in 23 congressional districts across the country, including swing states Florida, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

According to media reports, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is expected to be elected as the house speaker.

Meanwhile, Republicans are set to stay in control in the Senate as they managed to hold on to enough seats necessary to remain in control of the upper chamber of Congress and even unseat Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly in Indiana.
