Ross: Trump got 'very good assurance' from Xi on trade

United States Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross stated on Tuesday that the country's President Donald Trump got a "very good assurance" from his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on trade during their meeting in Argentina. During his interview with CNBC, the secretary stressed that there are still "many improprieties" in Washington's trade relations with Beijing, but that both sides are working on it. So long as China goes along with the US' approach to trade negotiations, "everyone will be happy," according to Ross.

The commerce secretary noted that Washington hopes that the two sides will be able to achieve a lot during the 90-day truce. He added that US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer will continue to lead the negotiations with China.

Commenting on the state of the domestic economy, Ross highlighted that the US economy remains "very strong" but that the "lack of workers" remains the biggest problem.
