Nissan files criminal complaint against Ghosn

Nissan filed a criminal complaint against Carlos Ghosn for aggravated breach of trust with the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, the company announced in a statement on Thursday.

The Japanese carmaker said that it filed the complaint owing to the former executive's misuse of a "significant" amount of its funds. Nissan also stated that it is continuing its own internal investigation into any illegal uses of its funds and that it will take steps to shore up its governance and compliance, which includes accurately disclosing corporate information. These steps will be taken in accordance with the discussions and recommendations of the company’s recently established Special Committee for Improving Governance.

Earlier today, Ghosn was indicted by a Tokyo court for aggravated breach of trust and misrepresentation. His lawyer said that he could be held in detention until the beginning of the trial, which is not scheduled for another six months.
