Police, protesters clash in Paris, over 200 arrested

Almost 500 people were detained during the so-called Yellow vests protests in Paris on Saturday, with 211 arrested, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said, according to multiple media.

Meanwhile, Paris riot police is said to have used tear gas bombs at the beginning of the panned protests. "We will do all we can so that today can be a day without violence, so that the dialogue that we started this week can continue in the best possible circumstances," Philippe stated.

The yellow vests gathered for the fourth time to protest the newly imposed tax on fuel, although the movement's focus has broadened to a more general expression of discontent with French President Emmanuel Macron and his government.
