Pompeo: Kerry is 'actively undermining US policy'

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday that former State Secretary John Kerry is "actively undermining US policy" in talking to Iran, and characterized such behavior as "literally unheard of." Kerry said earlier this week that he met with Iranian officials in an attempt to save the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal.

Pompeo stated that Kerry's actions are "unseemly and unprecedented" and "beyond inappropriate," although he did not want to comment on whether they are illegal. Answering to Kerry's claims the US wants regime change in Iran, Pompeo said the current administration is "very supportive of Iranian people having the regime they want." US President Donald Trump also slammed Kerry earlier, stating on Twitter he had "illegal meetings with the very hostile Iranian Regime, which can only serve to undercut our great work to the detriment of the American people."
