Salisbury road closed over incident near Skripal poisoning site

Police closed a road in Salisbury following a potential poisoning incident involving a man in his thirties, Sky News reported on Thursday. According to the report, the incident occurred near the Zizzi's restaurant which was attended by former spy Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia shortly before they displayed poisoning symptoms.

"Given the ongoing incident in Salisbury and Amesbury, we are taking highly precautionary measures to ensure public safety," the Wiltshire police stated. The authorities added that for now, they have not come across anything that would suggest "any wider risk to the public" and noted they will provide more details on the incident as soon as they have any further information.

The UK blamed Russia for the attack on Skripal and expelled over 20 of the country's diplomats, which escalated into a diplomatic row between Russia and the UK and its allies. Earlier in July, a man and a woman were admitted to hospital in Salisbury after allegedly being exposed to Novichok, the same substance used to poison Skripal in March. The woman died several days later, while the man has regained consciousness. It has been established that the pair touched a contaminated item, but the investigation has not determined the source of the contamination.
