Trump hails Apple's US investment, meets Cook

United States President Donald Trump praised Apple Inc. for making investments in the US and said he is meeting the company's CEO Tim Cook for dinner. Trump also noted he discussed security and trade issues with French counterpart Emmanuel Macron over the phone on Friday.

"Had a very good phone call with @EmmanuelMacron, President of France. Discussed various subjects, in particular Security and Trade. Many other calls and conversations today. Looking forward to dinner tonight with Tim Cook of Apple. He is investing big dollars in U.S.A." Trump tweeted.

In a conference call following the announcement of Apple's earnings, Cook criticized Trump's decision to impose import tariffs, warning that such measures can result in "lower economic growth" and carry a "significant risk of unintended consequences." The Apple CEO stressed that none of the so far introduced tariffs affected the company, but pointed out that the proposed duties on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods could have an impact on the tech giant.
