Trump: Putin will not admit to election meddling

United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he will discuss the issue of Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 US election during the upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin, but stressed he doesn't expect the Russian president to admit to it. Trump noted he will bring the issue up, but that Putin will definitely not say "Gee, I did it, You got me."

Trump singled out the topic of nuclear proliferation as the focus of the summit between the two leaders scheduled for Monday and added any kind of agreement with Moscow on that would mark a "tremendous achievement." He called nuclear weapons a "devastating technology" and insisted something had to be done about it, especially by the US, Russia and China as they are the greatest nuclear powers in the world. The US president said that with the current situation in the world, Washington had "no choice" but to continue developing its nuclear program.

The situations in Ukraine, Syria, as well as other parts of the Middle East will also be discussed at the Trump-Putin meeting in Helsinki, the US president confirmed during a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Theresa May.
