Trump to nominate William Barr as AG

United State President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that he will nominate former Justice Department chief William Barr as the new Attorney General. "I think he will serve with great distinction," the president told reporters in front of the White House.

In the meantime, Matthew Whitaker will continue to lead the department as acting attorney general. Barr served as attorney general for two years from 1991 under former US President George H.W. Bush.

The attorney general position became vacant after now former Attorney General Jeff Sessions wrote in his resignation letter that he is stepping down at Trump's request.
