Trump urges Dems to resolve govt shutdown

As the government shutdown became the longest one in United States history, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to once again call on Democrats to return to the negotiating table and reopen the government. He stressed that the "horrible humanitarian crisis" at the border with Mexico needs to be resolved together with the budget issue, and urged citizens to call their Democratic representatives in Congress and tell them to "get it done."

"Democrats should come back to Washington and work to end the Shutdown, while at the same time ending the horrible humanitarian crisis at our Southern Border. I am in the White House waiting for you!" Trump tweeted. He went on to share statistics which should support his case for building a wall at the border. The president concluded: "Democrats could solve the Shutdown in 15 minutes! Call your Dem Senator or Congresswoman/man. Tell them to get it done! Humanitarian Crisis."

Last week's talks with Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer ended with Trump walking out as soon as he heard that the two rejected any solution that would include funding for a wall with Mexico.
