UK govt insists May ruled out Brexit delay

United Kingdom's Prime Minister Theresa May ruled out extending United Kingdom's invocation of Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union, May's spokeswoman stated on Friday in response to a report claiming that the day the country exits the EU is likely to be delayed beyond the scheduled March 29 date.

The spokeswoman added that the government is making progress on bills that need to be passed before the Brexit date, and stressed that all the necessary legislation will be approved in parliament "either way" in time for the country's departure from the bloc.

Meanwhile, a new report emerged claiming that Downing Street expects the EU to provide assurances on the Irish backstop on Monday, just 24 hours before the crucial meaningful vote on May's withdrawal agreement.
