US initial jobless claims down by 4,000 to 231,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending December 1 amounted to 231,000, down by 4,000 compared to the previous week's unrevised level, the US Department of Labor reported on Thursday.

The 4-week moving average was 228,000, an increase of 4,250 from the previous week's revised average.

The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was for the week ending November 24 standing at 1.1%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the previous week's unrevised rate. The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending November 24 was 1,631,000, a decrease of 74,000 from the previous week's revised level.
