US initial jobless claims up by 7,000 to 214,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States rose by 7,000 to 214,000 compared to the previous week's unrevised level in the week ending October 6, the US Department of Labor reported on Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending September 29 stood at 1.2%, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised level. Insured unemployment during the same week increased by 4,000 to 1,660,000 from the previous week's revised level. The four-week moving average was 1,656,000, which marks a decline of 10,000 from the previous week's revised average.
