US stocks drop in premarket as govt shutdown continues

Markets in the United States were in the negative territory in premarket trade on Friday as the partial government shutdown continued for third week. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump announced yesterday that he will not be attending the World Economic Forum in Davos as negotiations with Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to end the shutdown fell through. When it comes to trade talks with China, investors are still awaiting more thorough details regarding what Washington and Beijing agreed upon.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.23% in premarket trade at 6:37 am ET, the Nasdaq 100 declined 0.30% at the same time, while the S&P 500 lost 0.22% at 6:38 am ET. The euro added 0.24% against the greenback, to change hands for 1.1526 at 6:38 am ET.
