US Trade Commission to probe new USMCA deal

The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) announced on Friday that it is launching an investigation into the new trade agreement with Canada and Mexico and its possible effects on the domestic economy. The commission will probe the impact of the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on both the US economy and its sectors and on the American consumers.

"The US International Trade Commission [USITC] has instituted an investigation to assess the likely impact of a trade agreement that the President has announced he intends to enter into with Mexico and Canada," the USITC stated.

United States President Donald Trump is due to sign the newly-negotiated agreement at the end of next month. The commission's trade report will be presented to both the president and the Congress within the 150 days of Trump signing the document.
