Viacom wants to enter video streaming market

American media conglomerate Viacom Inc. is in talks to enter the video streaming service market through an acquisition, the Information reported on Friday. The company owns Paramount Pictures, MTV and Nickelodeon.

Recently, it concluded acquisition talks with a free, ad-supported, streaming service Tubi TV, reportedly worth $300 million, after talking to a live TV service Pluto TV late last year. Tubi TV offers old TV shows and movies on demand, and is backed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.

NBC News reported yesterday that Viacom has held discussions about providing programming content to some regional sports networks that are being sold by Disney and Fox.
