Wall Street drops in premarket on trade concerns

US stocks were in the negative territory in premarket trading on Thursday as investors kept an eye on the still uncertain outcome of the US-China trade talks. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce noted earlier in the day that the two sides did make progress on structural issues, such as forced technology transfer and intellectual property rights, but failed to offer details on what was agreed upon during the three-day negotiation session. Meanwhile, the partial federal government shutdown entered its 20th day, making market watchers turn to US President Donald Trump's comments who described the latest meeting with Democratic congressional leaders as a "total waste of time."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.41% at 7:59 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 0.68% at 8:00 am ET, while the S&P 500 declined 0.56% at the same time. The euro lost 0.16% against the US dollar, buying 1.1536 at 8:01 am ET.
